Proofreading & copy editing services
for self-published authors

PRICING & TERMS

Since 2016, I have worked with dozens of authors and edited over 500 self-published books. I know how hard it is to proofread your own work after multiple rounds of editing. My clients receive positive reviews and no mention of errors after release.

(!) I do not rely on AI or any editing software.
Here's an example of my work.

PROOFREADING

I will also look for inconsistencies and plot holes in your story.

  • $0.0025 per word

  • first book is $0.002 per word

  • <80K ~ 3 days

  • >80K ~ 5 days

COPY EDITING

Takes place before proofreading.
I will check for grammatical and punctuation errors, inconsistencies in style and formatting, and ensure that the text flows smoothly.

  • $0.005 per word

  • >80K ~ 8 days

(An editing sample is possible for copy editing, but not for proofreading.)

BETA READING

I have worked with bestselling authors and studied self-publishing for 10 years in order to improve my own books and sales.

I will use MS Word Track Changes to comment on writing style, grammar, structure, clarity, pacing, flow, dialogue, world-building, characterization and character development, inconsistencies, and overall impression.

WHAT AUTHORS SAY

Incredibly fast and dependable. Do yourself a favor and gain some peace of mind. My latest book had already been through editors, beta readers and the ARC team when I thought one last proofread wouldn't hurt. I'm so glad I did. Thank you, Alexa. I look forward to working with you again in the future!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: What exactly does proofreading mean?
A: Proofreading is the final stage of editing where I eliminate errors left after all the work done by the author and editors. This means your book has to be prepared for it and as clean as possible. Only in this case can I guarantee a clean result. Hiring a proofreader does not mean you can skip the editing – it just means there will be someone else to help make your manuscript squeaky clean, someone who hasn't read it already. The rest can be found above in the description.

Q2: How do I pay? Do I have to pay in advance?
A: No, but I do take payment up front. I will need the manuscript and payment sent the day before I start the book.

Q3: What book format do you prefer?
A: I use Track Changes in MS Word, so I'll need the book in doc or docx format. I won't be changing your formatting, so please make sure the font is at least 12 pt, as anything smaller is hard to work with.

Q4: I'd like to book a slot, but I'm not sure when my book will be ready. Can I book tentatively?
A:
You can and you should. As long as you tell me about any changes in advance (at least 3 days before the scheduled date), I'll have no problem with swapping slots or just taking a day off. You can also cancel, and I'll move someone else up.
